Not just a meal...a journey.

Conveniently located on Shelburne Road the Lake-View House has been pleasing guests with menus designed by Executive Chef and General Manager David Hugo since June of 2007. With a well established staff in our dining room and our kitchen we are constantly improving both our service and our cuisine. This hidden gem has warm and inviting dining areas within this historic old Vermont mansion making it a wonderful place to enjoy a quiet dinner, have a lunch meeting or enjoy watching your favorite team play while dining in our lounge.

Our menu has something for everyone including house favorites and creative inspirations which are sure to please even the most discriminating guests. We use as many local products as possible and we are dedicated to serving you the freshest food, made from scratch daily. We shop in this order: Locally, Vermont, New England, the States, and finally the world to source the freshest and healthiest ingredients, including trans fat free oils, line caught fish, local dairy, produce and meats.

Our menu currently features products from local producers including Misty Knoll Farm, Vermont Herb and Salad Company, Blythesdale Farm, Cabot Creamery, Vermont Smoke and Cure, Hood, and others. During these winter months the local bounty is obviously significantly less plentiful than during the summer growing season, but we are still providing guests with as many local ingredients as possible. As the seasons progress towards the long summer days we will again expand the list of our local producers as more fruits and vegetables come in to season. We will again be sourcing locally foraged ramps, fiddleheads and mushrooms and as the sun continues to shine we will soon be using strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and an assortment of other fruits and veggies from Norma's Berry Farm in Charlotte. We will feature many vegetables from Stony Loam Farm in Charlotte as well as some items from the market gardens of Shelburne Farms. With these producers and the bounty from our own herb and vegetable gardens we are looking forward to some fantastic dishes to come out of our kitchen this summer.

History of the Lake-View House

The Big House at Lake-View Farm was built by Lemuel S. Drew in the mid - 1800's. This beautiful Victorian house was part of a 266 acre farm which reached from Spear Street to Shelburne Bay.

The Lake-View Farm was known for its prize winning thoroughbred horses and its Ayrshire bulls and cows, many of which made trips all the way down to Madison Square Garden.

During this time, Lake-View Farm was most popular for being a wonderful place to escape when city life became too much. The two mile horse-drawn carriage ride out to the farm was often noted for its beauty and its fresh country air.

As Lemuel wrote in his retirement notice, "As much as I love the Queen City of Burlington and my hotels, nothing can compare to the sunset on Shelburne Bay!"

Our present day philosophy takes a note from the past. We use the freshest ingredients from farmers who have sustainable practices. We serve farm-fresh food prepared from scratch throughout the day.

It is in this spirit that we welcome you to our Big House.
